Mercy Chinwo

Biography

Mercy Nnenda Chinwo was born on 5 September 1990 in Port Harcourt, Rivers state – NIGERIA. She is the fourth child in a family of five (first daughter). Chinwo got involved in music at a very early age, being a member of the children’s choir in her church and transitioning to the adult choir prior to launching her musical career. Chinwo’s father died when she was young.

She started her musical career by lending her vocals to musical projects by gospel music artistes such as Sammie Okposo, Joe Praize, Buchi, Chris Morgan, and Preye.

The Nigerian roots phenom, Mercy Chinwo; a Gospel Singer, Actress, Public Speaker, and an Ambassador of the Gospel of Jesus Christ couldn’t come at a better time.

In 2013, Mercy Chinwo made her acting debut in the television movie titled HOUSE OF GOLD, starring alongside Yvonne Nelson, Majid, Omawumi, IcePrince and Frank Odega. In the same year, she did the theme song for the Rivers State Carnival and was found deserving to be the face of the festival.

In 2015, she used her songwriting talents to pen her first solo single titled, ‘TESTIMONY’; a song which chronicled her life, and her journey towards success. Since then, Mercy has remained within the Gospel Music circuit, collaborating with some of the well-known Gospel music brands, such as Chris Morgan, Chioma Jesus, J.J Hairston, Sammie Okposo, Joe Praize, Deacon Buchi, Chris Morgan, Preye Odede, and many others.

In 2016, she released her second single titled ‘IGWE’; a soulful worship song which is fast becoming an anthem in many Churches, trailed with testimonies, chief of which was a report in Dominion City, Enugu, of a woman who came back to life while she sang this song which she said to have learnt when her spirit departed to be with the Lord.

Among Mercy’s influencers are the likes of Chris Morgan, Chioma Jesus, and Tasha Cobbs. She made cameo appearances in Sinach’s‘He Did it Again’ video which was released in 2015. She has dropped awesome singles like ‘OME KANNAYA’, ‘ON A REGULAR’, ‘EXCESS LOVE’, ‘I AM’, ‘TRUST’ and ‘LOVE EXPRESSION’ which were all premiered before she released her acclaimed debut album titled ‘THE CROSS MY GAZE’. Mercy is in no doubt fast becoming one of the most influential figures in the music industry in the 21st century.

Mercy Chinwo released her first single, “Testimony”, in 2015, and “Igwe” a year later.

In 2017, Mercy Chinwo signed to Gospel Music Label EeZee Conceptz.

In 2018, Mercy Chinwo was awarded the Best Gospel Artiste at the CLIMAX Awards 2018. In 2019, at the maiden edition of the Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST 2019) Mercy Chinwo was named winner in three categories namely Africa Gospel New Artiste of the Year, Africa Gospel Female Artiste of the Year and Africa Gospel Song of the Year (Excess Love). Notably, the categories she won contained the likes of Sinach, Prospa Ochimana and Tim Godfrey.
