This J.Kwest record, “Livstrong ft. J. Ivy,” is about those nights we all know – when we feel ourselves a little too much and go too far. The Vice Life of sex, drugs, and all that is covered like you hear in other songs, but Kwest is witty, lyrical. and honest in talking temptation. Put simply: “This one is for the hood, who try to livstrong/but break down after trying all night long.” He covers text mistakes (“Phone by my side might as well be a trigger”) and the recklessness of All Star Weekend. Next time you see someone about to do something dumb, tell them to LIVSTRONG.
J. Ivy is featured on this record as well, and shuts it down much like he did on Kanye’s “Never Let Me Down.” The visuals (directed by Cam Be) take you through J’s psyche as if it was a video game, and remind us of the many ways we try/fail to do better.
