The Bible tells an amazing love story of Jacob, Leah and Rachel. Leah, an average looking girl, was the wife of Jacob and mother of six of twelve tribes. Jacob married Leah by being tricked by her father. Jacob made a deal with her father to marry Leah and work for seven years in order to marry the woman he really loved – Leah’s beautiful sister Rachel. Jacob eventually married Rachel and, who after several years was unable to conceive, finally birthed two sons – Joseph and Benjamin. This story of Love, Envy, Temptation and Sibling Rivalry has been adapted into a modern day film LOVE 101.
Two Tennessee based Christian media companies Defender of Truth (Jackson, TN) and B4 Entertainment (Murfreesboro, TN) have partnered to develop and release LOVE 101. “I came up with the idea for this movie from an event that happened with a couple of high school seniors that were dating,” shares Defender of Truth founder Karen Aikens. “The young man was very controlling over the young lady and she eventually broke up with him. He began to threaten her and later shot and killed her,” she continues. “This was a devastating loss in our city, but sadly, the other students didn’t seem shocked as if it was all a part of being in love. This response broke my heart and made me question, do we really know what love is?” Aikens sought out noted producer, videographer and Christian music executive Ricky Burchell, founder of B4 Entertainment to film the movie.
LOVE 101 will premiere February 13, 2014 in the select cities of Bethesda, MD (Landmark Bethesda Row Theatre); Alpharetta, GA (Studio Movie Grill); and Baltimore, MD (Harbor East Landmark Theatre). Additional showings across the U.S. will be announced soon including Nashville and Jackson, TN and Birmingham, AL.
LOVE 101 sets this intriguing biblical love story in a modern day high school with a cast of young, naive classmates on a quest to find out what Love really is.
Leah, a young teenage girl, thinks she is in love with fellow high school senior, Jacob (straight-A student and Christian). The big problem is that Jacob is dating Leah’s younger sister Rachel. Rachel (the popular cheerleader) and Leah (quiet, shy and goth type) couldn’t be more different. One day Jacob mistakenly notices Leah after a mix up on an internet chat site where Leah deliberately changes her clothing style to be more like her younger sister.
Joseph (the new kid in school) spends most of his time involved in activities with the church youth group instead of sports and parties like most teenage guys his age. But, temptation is thrown his way by the over-flirty teenage girl in his class who is out to see if Joseph practices everything he preaches.
Will Leah learn that love isn’t based on appearances? Will Joseph overcome sexual temptation?
LOVE 101 is an engaging and thought provoking film created as a dynamic tool for youth ministry groups, college groups and families seeking to provide discussion and an in depth look at the scriptural account of Love and relationships within families and young adults.
