The Toronto born emcee comes fresh off of competing at the Rapzilla Hot 16 Bar Challenge at Legacy Conference in Chicago, where out of over a hundred submissions, he advanced to the final 3. Dru Bex joins the Role Model Records family, already comprised of fellow Toronto natives, Julien and Shopé (fka Spoken).
Once referred to by CHH legend The Phanatik as “a more lyrical cat”, Dru Bex brings to the label his ability to convey the clear message of The Gospel using clever story telling and wordplay. A versatile artist, Dru likes to stretch the boundaries of his creativity, refusing to be put in a box.
“The exciting thing is, people have only seen a fraction of what I have to offer” says the artist, “I’ve listened, learned and added to my song making arsenal and I can’t wait to bring my catalog to new heights at RMR.”
Role Model Records CEO, Sola agrees, “…with the artists already on our roster, Dru Bex brings yet another strong element to the family that will further solidify our message and place in the industry… Dru is a great brother and a great artist.”
Late last year, Dru Bex released his first free EP entitled Nowhere to Now Here. The seven song project boasts features from CHH heavyweights like Social Club, Alex Faith and Mixed Bag recording artist and fellow Toronto native Promise, as well as production by Wit, Tee-Wyla, Black Knight and up and coming Toronto producer Q. More recently, Dru performed at SXSW ’14 and has shared the stage with S.O. and God’s Servant (Lampmode Recordings) as well as recent God Over Money signee, Datin.
Expect to hear Dru Bex’s signature delivery on Shopé’s self-titled EP, on Aug. 26, and look for a project announcement soon. In the meantime, visit www.drubex.com and www.rolemodelrecords.ca for more music and info about Dru Bex; also, follow Dru on Twitter at @drubex for updates!
