After 23 years in the industry, Brooks’ music is celebrated now more than ever. Lisa was ones at #1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Songs, “I Want to Say Thank You” from the singer’s latest project, “Strong”, which till continues to display increasing support. But Brooks is no stranger to success. Favorably known as the lead vocalist of the female gospel group, “Witness”, Brooks began making a name for herself with hit songs from the quartet’s 1986 album, “Keep Looking Up”.
However, it was the group’s third release, “We Can Make a Difference,” that placed the group on the country’s national radar and attracted fans from the urban, R&B community. Lisa’s deeper, alto voice distinguished her from group members. It was while working with “Witness” that Lisa met her husband, Michael Brooks, who formed the group for his sister Tina.
Lisa recalls receiving a phone call from a friend that Michael wanted her to attend group rehearsal. “I showed up and the rest is history,” remembers Brooks. Together, the two are a dynamic pastoral team helping people to foster relationships with God at Restoration Fellowship Church International. Fruits of the group’s labor include multiple Grammy nominations and Dove awards, and a Stellar award.
Off her forthcoming album “Ready” which will hit stores in June, here is Lisa with “God Thing”.
