There are some songs you can just label simple but classic. This is one of them. It is done by the Adenuga Brothers and it is titled ‘God and I’. Gbenga narrate the story behind the song this way, ”About six year ago, I used to run Worshipways a twice a month, Jesus focused concert series in the city of Ibadan pulling together about 3000 people at both meetings monthly.
It was at one of those meetings that I first sang ‘God & I’. We actually did the Tugba version. It was really cool.
Despite the great acceptance of the Tungba version I craved for a more western feel. Some sort of acoustic guitar driven feel. I was introduced to this young and dynamic producer, PhatE by a younger colleague and brother Lamboginni.
PhatE was able to interpret the song and I decided to have my brother on it to drive the message further
The song will always bless me. Gives me so much confidence that God cares about me. It’s also very simple to follow. “Call and response” is absolutely a powerful way of driving a message home.
God and I is one of the tracks in my new album ‘E Be Like Say’ that I will release sometime this year.
