JOAN PAUL from Trinidad and Tobago , the third child of her mom,was born in
Lagos , Nigeria , on Christmas day the 25th of Dec. 1979, to Capt. Neville
Paul and Felicia Bassey; she had her primary and secondary education in
Warri, Delta State and graduated from the department of International
Studies and Diplomacy, Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Edo State in March,
2005.
Her musical journey started from Word of Life Bible Church, Warri at age 7,
doing solos and performances with her children’s choir, and a dance group.
As she grew, she had the opportunity to perform along side artistes such as
Margaret Ingram, Broda Martins, Dc Envoys etc. Music flows in her lineage
hence, she had great encouragement from her uncles who were already into
professional music at that time; they were known as ‘Glad Tidings’ under
the management of Patrick Doyle. Her inspirations were drawn from icons
like Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Shirley Cesar, Mariah Carey, Tevin
Campbell, Yolanda Adams Cece Winans etc. It was no surprise that she even
led the music club of her primary school ( N.N.P.C. Staff School , Warri),
to do a recording with the then Bendel Broadcasting Service (BBS),
Benin-City.
A break came for her when a concert was organized in 2002 at Urohobo
College Main Hall, Warri called ‘CITY IN PRAISE’ were she performed with
the likes of Kingsley Ike, Samsong, Mike Aremu, Min. Osene Ighodaro,
D.C.Envoys, Rexa and the Spirit of David,Osuofia (Ukwa) amongst other etc.
After winning the award for BEST GOSPEL FEMALE at the south south music
award (SSMA 2011) with first official single -“Ikhayere (Grateful)” featuring
Meeme Excel – Her debut album was released on the stables of “Kbk Records”
a subsidiary of Arkmuzik Int’l with hits like “Hold on”, “Best Friend”,
“Till the End”,Jiro. MY LUV, MY LIFE has got other tracks like , “Jiro
remixfeaturing Liora
and Annivon ”, Heavens Champion, “Alade Ogo” and lots more produced by Noah
‘kbkjnr’ Momodu.
A very vibrant soloist, she has served as praise team director, Head of
the choir (The Inspirational Choir) and is MD of the women’s choir in the
church with her husband who is also the Music Director of the same
choir; (Miracle
Assembly, Benin-City, Edo State.).
