Hailing from Long Beach, New York, singer/songwriter Jaysha Teemer has been making some major waves on the music scene since the drop of her official remix of Drake’s “Girls Love Beyonce” in August of 2013.
Jaysh’s follow up 2014 release of her EP “Therapy” certified her as the next rising super star. Written entirely by Jaysh with production by History, the project is sure to propel the rising star to worldwide acclaim. Just a month after the release of her debut EP, Jaysh received a phone call from American Gospel singer, John P. Kee who had listened to her lead single “Control”. Teemer recounts, “I didn’t even say hello [yet] and he said ‘I’m your new biggest fan your so amazing!'” To her surprise she had made it to the final round to be a part of John P. Kee’s new artist compilation album.
At age nine, Jaysha traveled along with her mother, singer, Kathy Campbell who also directed choirs in local communities while raising Jaysha’s sister and three brothers, one of which is her twin. While attending Long Beach High School and developing a love and appreciation for music Jaysha began rapping at age 14. Next to musically inclined friends Jaysh is inspired by the sounds of Kierra Sheard, Cavida Jones, Brandy, and Jazmine Sullivan to name a few.
The now 20 year old senior at Five Towns College is majoring in Music Business and Vocal Performance. Jaysh admits “Therapy” was a real therapy session for her, “At the time of recording I was experiencing the struggles of love, wanting to be big, wanting to be something, wanting all my dreams to come true and trying to get comfortable with myself.” Combating and addressing the day to day struggles of the average young woman she wants people to relate to how she feels, “I want people to feel inspired by what I bring to the table. I feel like I have a lot to say and every song I make is created to evoke emotion and a different feeling, no matter who you are, at the end of the day it is something everyone can relate to.” She reveals, “Control” was the most emotional song, “I cried when I was recording that song. At the time my dad [and] feeling like I wasn’t getting anywhere with my music.”
Jaysh is committed to proving why her music and style is set apart from many other artists. Defining herself as a figure on the future of R&B/Soul: Gospel, her sincere lyrics and ambient vocals coupled with a nostalgic 90’s vibe and futuristic sounds, sets her apart from the rest as she has cultivated a passionate and diverse fan base claiming her spot among the elite class of emerging talent.
“I’m normal and I’m young, I listen to what I want to listen to, I listen to Kanye and everything that doesn’t mean I don’t believe in God.” – Jaysh
