Bona is a singer-songwriter and worship leader with a heart for seeing people come to grips with the knowledge of Christ’s love and of His grace. Born in Baltimore, MD to Nigerian parents, Bona began writing songs and expressing herself with words from a very young age. As a teenager, Bona was given the privilege to lead worship at her local church and the experience has caused her to understand the sanctity and importance of the place of worship. After teaching herself guitar and honing her skills, she felt a strong need to share her songs and experiences with other people. With her sultry and soulful voice, Bona sings melodies that are meant to draw the listener into the message of her songs.
After gaining professional experience from touring with the gospel group Brandon Camphor and OneWay and singing background for the alternative hip-hop soul band, Ndelible, Bona was able develop an individual sound. When asked about the purpose of her music, Bona says, “I just want people to see Jesus for how amazing He is and to fall in love with Him. I want that love to translate into unadulterated worship to an awesome God. That is my passion.”
Bona has been compared to artists such as India.Arie, Jewel and Lauryn Hill and has a sound that has been described as “pure, contemporary and soulful with a folk twist.” “I like to call my genre acoustic soul worship,” she says, “I love all different kinds of music and I think that my individual sound reflects that.” Her passionate, expressive, melodic and heartfelt worship is a sound that the world is waiting to hear.
