Erica Cumbo is a diverse artist; able to flow seamlessly from praise & worship, gospel, rap, and rhythm and praise. Erica’s music isa reflection of who she is – fun, energetic, inspiring, filled with God’s Presence, and life-changing!” To watch her on the stage doing her thing, you wouldn’t know that Erica was really a quiet, shy tomboy when she was a child. She got her start mimicking artists and thought that she would like to be a background singer for some of her favorite artists including Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and India Arie. When you see and experience Erica take command of the stage, you can imagine that being in the background would have robbed the world of a phenomenal performer.
Erica, along with her sister and another friend formed a group called Genesis. This was truly the genesis of Erica Cumbo. She submitted her life to God and joined the youth choir at her church, which was led by Canton Jones. Once she led a song and Canton heard her sing, she started leading more, and later began leading the very choir Canton had led. In addition to singing, Erica has always liked rap because she is from NY. She always learned the raps to her favorite songs and mimicked their ‘swag.’ Erica was given an opportunity to rap on a purity song for the teen ministry and after that, it was a ‘wrap!’ People started giving her their beats to write to and whatever God gave her, rapping or singing, is what came out.
Erica continued to stay connected to Canton, opening up for him at shows and was featured on a few of his projects including several collabo and solo songs on the Kingdom Business series. Probably best known for her hits “Halle” and “After Party”, Erica also became known as a great performer with awesome energy on the stage. After being committed faithfully to the youth ministry and serving God, He opened the door and she received an unexpected blessing; a record contract with Canton’s CAJO Records.
Erica Cumbo originally hails from Hempstead, New York but has lived in Atlanta since 2000. Erica began singing with her family. Erica followed in her father’s footsteps, who led praise and worship when they were in NY, stating that he was so anointed and passionate about serving God and she knows that is where she got her inspiration. Her mom also sings and the rest of her musical family include older brother Steven, who is a drummer and makes beats, and younger sister Olivia, who also leads praise and worship and is a writer. Erica is married to Robert Hooper, whom she met while they were both serving in their youth ministry. Robert also raps, sings, plays keys and the guitar. Their two year old daughter Mikaya is already displaying the music genes, playing drums and singing songs around the house.
Erica’s desire is to be a positive influence, especially on girls and young women! She wants to push purity and be an example of what a true relationship with God is like and what marriage with a real man (her Husband) looks like. She wants her music to bring God’s presence, peace, and healing into people’s lives. And if people are feeling distant from God, she wants the music to help move them closer to Him!
Erica describes herself as silly, passionate and growing. Desiring that her music introduces people to Jesus and bring His presence, peace and healing to all who listen, Erica likes to write songs filled with answers that God gives her in her walk with Him. She hopes her music will draw those that are feeling distant from God closer to Him. She wants to inspire people to live their lives for God and to really see the truth that is in Jesus!
Erica has been compared to Lauryn Hill, Jazmine Sullivan and MC Lyte. Her favorite artists are Israel Houghton, Fred Hammond, Hillsong, India Arie, Lauryn Hill and Canton Jones. Citing the fact that not only does she love Canton’s encouraging music, she also loves the energy and passion for God displayed when He ministers live! And, the extra added bonus is that Canton and his wife Ramona are so down to earth and genuinely love people. To Erica, having a right heart before God and really living an authentic Christian life; loving her husband and doing it the way God intended and being closely connected to her daughter and family are the most important things. Her philosophy of life is when you trust God and honor Him with your life (not in just what you say or do on Sundays), He will honor you! Erica Cumbo intends to use this musical platform given to her by God to change the world in a positive way! She is getting her chance to Live Out Loud and proclaim the liberty that is in Jesus!
Here is ERICA CUMBO’S latest Video “Live Out Loud’. This is a song i think will encourage everyone to stick to God’s love.
Enjoy.
