ARTICLE: “What Kind of Songs are You Filling Your Spirit With”? by Pastor Wale Adenuga | @adenuga_wale |

THE SONG OF THE LORD

One main problem I had when I gave my life to Christ in 1988 as a student in the University of Ife was music. Music was the stronghold in my life. I’d been stuffed with listening to MJ, Kool & the Gang, Dynasty and the rest. Now I’m a christian, I was depressed by the music available in the kingdom then.

I actually told God one day on one of my walks that He had to do better than what I was hearing then. Yeah.

Shortly afterwards, I started to attend Christ Love Fellowship. And music was great there. And of course, that’s where music ministry started for me.

What I realised afterwards was that everyday I woke up with a song. I’d be walking down the road and songs of worship would fill my heart. And since those days in the late 80s till now, I’ve almost always woken up with a song. Practically everyday.

These songs even have the capacity to be prophetic in nature. I remember 2 years ago, I woke up with Bob Fitts’ song – HE WILL COME AND SAVE YOU. That day, He did save me and others on a flight between London and Newark as our plane developed a fault mid air and we had to land in Shannon, Ireland. When the pilot announced that there was a problem, I was at peace because of that song that came through a few hours earlier.

It’s easier to have these overflowing songs in your heart if you have filled your ear gates with them in the first place.

One of the reason why we have lots of worship songs out today is that these are Spirit breathed tools; tools to invest in ourselves. Tools that when we individually ingest them and then express them corporately, the Lord will be made manifest. Tools that can become songs of deliverance, of joy, of healing etc.

Question of the day: what kind of songs are you filling your spirit with?
