Isn’t it funny how, most of us try to compete with each other on social media? We live in a culture of constant comparison. And that’s the problem with social media, where people strive to put their picture of perfection in everyone’s faces.
There are those who try so hard to show how knowledgeable and influential they are and they do this by subtly putting others down
We claim to be the picture of perfection by showing airbrushed pictures, and airbrushed lives.
There’s a problem with our culture with this mentality of trying to be like everyone else or showing everyone how awesome we are.
Is social media the problem or is there something wrong with us?
We don’t need to prove to anyone that we are special or different. We don’t need to be “perfect in people’s eyes”. Feel free to release yourself and let yourself open up about who you really are. You will make more impact and affect lives that way, because the people you relate with will have something to learn from your failings and triumphs. It’s too much work pretending to be who you are not.
A lot of Christians are so busy trying to conform to an image they have built in their heads to impress people that they have forgotten we are supposed to be conformed to HIS image.
Romans 12:2 (AMP)
Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].
There’s a problem when your life is all about painting an image to impress other people.
People keep saying social media is supposed to be fun, but you and I know its gotten way beyond just having fun. In the hustle and bustle of the modern day street market that is social media, we should not lose focus of what our purpose in life is. Image management without glorifying Christ is vanity and pride.
Stop looking at other people’s doctored pictures and telling yourself you’re not pretty enough, stop looking at some pictures of couples smiling and acting like they NEVER have relationship problems , thinking your own relationship suck, stop looking at other people’s fake social media lives, and thinking your own life is not as glamorous or perfect.
“…….Christ in you, the hope of glory…” (Colossians 1:27)
It’s time to start seeing yourself the way God sees you. His opinion is all that matters. Don’t compare yourself to the glory of others, contemplate the glory of God in your life and spend time in worshiping him for who he has created you to be.
1 Peter 2:9 (AMP)
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own [a]purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Instead of getting addicted to your twitter/facebook/instagram feeds to check what others think about you, get addicted to checking the word of God to see what he says about you and how he wants you to live. Trust me, your life will be better for it.
