A native of Edo state, Nigeria, and a graduate of Anatomy from the University of Benin, Kingsley Atuba is the new face of contemporary gospel music in Nigeria. With Hit singles like ‘Nothing’ and ‘Dance Wey i Sabi’, etc. He has proven that he sure has what it takes to take the Gospel Music Industry by storm.

His soon to be released album ‘No Joy’ is sure to unravel the wholeness of what Kingsley Atuba has to offer. Some have likened his style to that of Florocka, and many others. Our review had the opportunity to review this album, and here is what we came up with.

The record “FOREVER” is a good mid tempo song executed well, its one that is easy to rave and clap along with because of its bouncy feel, more like one step at a time. The message of Christ was evident throughout the whole record. I for one enjoyed the modulation variations used in the song, it was well timed and reflected depth. My only concern is the song engineering itself, the instrumental seemed to spread over the lead vocal on a few occasions hereby getting louder than it.

‘NOTHING’ is a soulful song that describe’s one’s commitment to the ever loving and ever caring God. It is that kind of song that will make you want to recount your blessings despite prevailing challenges.

“HALLELUJAH” I liked the percussive feel the intro of this song has, very nice and most especially the build up from the intro into the lead vocal coming in? Gosh! A rush of juicy opera keys and synths. A very typical african worship song that takesnone right to the altar, emotions were expressed in this quality piece of art, the deliveries were on point. The production is average too, low end frequencies clipped on the chorus but all together, I’d say great work.

“HELP THE WORLD” it has nice melodies and jibes, also can easily be passed as an humanitarian effort too! Lets make the world a better place. The song didn’t stick to me on my first listen, and other listens so I don’t know where to place it. Production is average too! The rapper did justice.

“NO JOY” Now, this is one we don’t get to hear often, a reggae inspired gospel work, the intro till the end of the 1st verse and the outro particularly caught my ear, good music. The message of christ was evident in the song! Great job guys, and the drummer was awesome! Good work of art put together but like we always say “there’s room for improvement”.

In all, ‘No Joy’ is a good album and kudos to Kingsley Atuba for putting out a great work for a debut album. And guys, make sure you get the album when it is finally released and let us know your opinion about it.

‘No Joy’ drops on iTunes, amazon, and Spinlet on the 6th of august, 2014.
