Album Review: Ensy – ‘ENSY’ [The Worship Album]

ENSY ALBUM PIX 2The worship album by Ensy has been getting wonderful reviews across the country and hit tracks like ‘There Is No One Like You’, ‘Celebrate’ and ‘Holy Are You Lord’ has been getting massive air play on radio stations across the world as well. We deem it wise to paint a graphic picture of what the album is really about and to also make those still waiting to grab a copy of the album what they are missing out on. So, we asked our review team to come up with something, below is what they came up with. Feel free to add your comments.

This is a great album, at first I thought it was a black American singer especially when I heard Track 1 “CELEBRATE” (my favourite) that record was all forms of perfection,  very jazzy, cool medley voices and one you can bump to all hours of the day.

The Track “THERE IS NO ONE LIKE YOU” depicts the very essence of African church praise. Somehow a bit of samba/jazz progression was infused at the intro, very professional and creative i’d say.

The track “UWESE” was delivered awesomely in the eastern Nigerian dialect, I can but only wonder what a live performance would sound like. The keyboard progression was beautiful, this little detail can stand a track out from the so many out there, good job.

“NAYO” is the typical Niger-Delta kind of praise song. Lovely tune the choristers render when there is a special thanksgiving service in a Nigerian church and you bring out your handkerchief then wave and dance away into God’s grace, very lovely jolly record also delivered in Uhrobo.

“LORD YOU REIGN” is a great jazz song, good use of the guitar but i was expecting more use and better deliveries of the wind instruments like tuba, trumpets and some brass would have come in handy too.

The track “MAJESTY” sounded like every other worship record out there, good, soulful and just worship, vocal precision not too catchy except for the strumming of the guitar and the Rhode keyboard, that was yummy (forgive my choice of words, i personify music to understand it, lol).

“I LOVE YOU LORD” was good but personally i didn’t enjoy it, maybe because i was expecting more medleys and a better storyline! The intro pushed for a very lyrical expedition, or maybe the verse should have just come in first right after the intro, beginning should have been arranged differently in my opinion, good track nevertheless, very ‘worship’ in nature and remember to give your guitar guy a raise, he burnt the record.

The track “WELL DONE” is a replica of what i expected on “I love you lord” very great orchestra intro, divine medley voices even though i feel the orchestra intro should have continued into the whole sing, blended with the jazz soul, and i would have loved it more if the duet was accompanied by a female voice instead of a lads, this track is just too packed! Good music plus powerful message.

“IMELA” is a really good use of the house music genre although its been modified but good use all the same, the concept of the song is evident, the drummer did a good job, those sticks must be hot by now, good track but there’s always room for improvement.

“HOLY ARE YOU LORD RMX” was a good record but one would have expected a couple few bars on it, some gospel rap would have come in handy especially since its a hip hop mix record, nevertheless the lady on the second verse came in very strong with her quality and blessed the track.

The track “HOLY ARE YOU LORD (BABA O)” takes one right to worship with such a soulful inspirational song delivered on a classic and well produced record, the good use of the strings cannot be unnoticed.

“HOLY GOD” is one that caught my ear at first listen, especially with that intro, pure fire! Good to see gospel acts putting work into Jazz soul contemporary music, although the record “HOLY SPIRIT” does have a bit too much of the auto tune which is usually not a bad thing but wouldnt take an avid music listener or critique more than a second to figure out! Good track too.

All together this is a very good album, the main essence of spreading the gospel of Jesus through music was well dominant throughout the whole album, all tracks sounded professionally recorded and engineered, a classy soul piece gracefully put together. Thumbs up guys, God bless!…. @diplomaticsound
