Album Review: Adia – ‘Behind Enemy Lines’ | @Adiasings |

Adia - Behind Enemy LinesFor everyone there is a moment. A person. A calling. For everyone there is that something or someone that ignites the spark that lights the fire that simply cannot be extinguished. Singer/songwriter Adia is no exception.

Adia says that for a long time she tried to ignore that nagging tug on her heart — a calling to sing for the Lord. “It was something I used to struggle with,” she admits. “I did not want to do Christian music because I realize that ministry is serious. Lives are at stake. Souls are at stake. I was running as fast as possible in the opposite direction.” But after her aunt’s death, she no longer wanted to run away from her calling. She was ready to embrace it. Still, she had one concern: She didn’t want to do “churchy” music. “Can I just make music that was truly honest about where I am in my life?” she wondered. Apparently, the answer to that question was yes. She obviously poured are heart out on her brand new album ‘Behind Enemy Lines’. Check out our review below and tell us what you favorite track is on the album. Here we go!!!

Firstly, Great intro, urges one right into the song. Almost like a movie! Lovely style of creation.

BEHIND ENEMY LINES FT. JESSICA.R:
First thing I can depict from this compilation, even right from the intro is the quality of song composition from the lyrics, almost seems as if the writer is trying to reach out and touch you, this is a rare piece of detail that most songs lack these days. Although, due to its orchestral rythm, I would have expected more vocal intrusions and dynamism to give it a full opera choral effect. That guitar strumming at me end is just all forms of beauty. Good song.

TORN IDENTITY:
Another interesting story expressed on this, one with a self reflective ability and a lot of emotional presence. That along with the medley of the song makes it a pure beautiful piece of art. The power of the song pulls one into it even from the very first listen. Good theme and context expressed in this piece, something you really got to listen to.

RAGS TO RICHES:
Oh Lord! I could listen to this all day. This might just be my best song off this album yet. The build up of this record is just genius, from the intro right till the end, it demands your total 100 attention which the listener gives unconsciously. The intensity the artist brought on this record with her is amazing, puts the picture right into your mind! Good message, very deep and powerful thoughts put into this. I for one enjoyed the particular production of this song, proffesional and matured…and them chords? Sweet Jesus!

HEAT FT. GEMSTONES:
Nice song construction, it matches the intensity expected of its title “Heat”. The theme and context expressed in the song is a powerful sincere truth, especially where it went “when you gain the world but you loose your soul” now that there depicts the mental, psychological and spiritual depth of the writer when creating this. The rapper brought more versatility with his fast paced spoken word. Song has a military/revolutionary feel because of its intensity. Good song!

GIANTS:
When I saw the title of this record, I looked forward to what the writer could possibly express on this uncommon text, and even if I expected the song to build up differently, it somehow found a way to pull me back in its spiral. This record evokes a positive state of mind and that right there is one of the many powers of real music irrespective of the genre. The lead vocal on this piece was yummy! (Lol, forgive my choice of words. Indeed we are Giants, great piece!

UNCONDITIONAL:
Nothing like a well produced stereo imaged piano entrance into a song. Just like every other great song that has the power of creating a picture or story in its listener’s mind, this piece created a scenario of a young lady sitting in front of a piano facing a weary congregation needing the re-assurance of God’s unconditional love. It makes one reflect, the emotions embedded in this piece is amazing, the message, rythm, arrangement and delivery on this is PURE! This definitely is my best song off the album. Great Job!

FAVOUR AIN’T FAIR:
Another great story being expressed on this record, makes one wonder if the singer is also a poetic writer, the depths of the lyrics of this song entices me to listen on with concentration. Great build up with the drums, brings the power of dynamism into it, Nice vocal medleys. Although, more choral backups would have come in handy, still! I must say that a lot of emotions went into this as portrayed by the singer.

IN YO SEAT:
WOW! I love the difference brought into this. The breakdowns and alterations are very much part of the essence of the song. Good vocal medleys, brings life into the record and evokes the feeling of praise. The context of the song is procative in a good sense, that being the urge to praise. I practically tapped along with it while listening. Good use of the dubstep for the lord haha! I’m clapping! It don’t matter where you are, just praise him.

TAKE IT BACK:
The fact that she always wants to tell a story on each record is amazing. That alone is enough to draw any listener’s attention. The story is all I hear on this record and she’s telling it beautifully. A song well put together but at first listen, I couldn’t place how it made me feel unlike the previous songs. Consecutive listens didn’t so so much either. Nice production and vocal deliveries especially with the fast paced tempo! Nice work!

GIVE IT TO HIM:
Nice song, the instrumental almost seems like an old school guitar classic record or a mid century karaoke. The bass line did a nice job of keeping up with the vocal all through, gave it a more bluey bouncy jazzy feel. Yet again her ability to tell a great story is evident all through the song. In my opinion, I would have enjoyed a more centralised duet right from the second verse until the outro, it just might have added more vocal depth to it. Good work!

NEVER TOO CLOSE:
One thing she sure knows how to do is buildup a song and render a solo on a piano play. Well executed from the begining and even grows more way into the song. The snare roll in the chorus didn’t convince me too much, it really wasn’t needed, few more vocals, soft synths and keys would have added to the essence of its choral..that bass? Woooh ooh! Lol!

RIGHT BACK HOME FT BLAZE:
The guitar at the beginning totally got me on this, very interesting pattern to the ears, lovely story line! And that guy Blaze? Give him a raise already, haha! He did a great job on this. Nice soothing medley on this piece of art gives it this “my everyday type of song” feel. Classic record I must say but of course, dont just take my word for it, listen to it, feel it! The quality of the production was top notch! Good work guys!

OUTRO:
Nice way to end a song! C’est bon!

This compilation is a unique one out of most I’ve come across this past few months, the quality of the music production is just state of the art, the clarity is standard and most of all, the secret weapon of the artist, her ability to express a tale on most or all of her records is just divine. Thanks for giving us at GOSPEL CENTRIC the opportunity to review your contents, we are grateful and I personally just became a fan of Adia and look forward to working more with you! Go Adia! But as always, we should strive for the better, there’s always room for improvement! God bless!
